No One to Support Murtha but Us; Murtha for President?

UPDATE: OK, as noted in my own comments below, the Presidential junk is not the real point here (an afterthough turned into attention getter, unfortunately more attention than I wanted). The real point is, Murtha needs support and is not getting much (see exchange with Kagro below), and it would be nice if people actually showed their support. You know Democratic politicians; they just need a little encouragement sometimes to do the right thing. Please read on.
As orthogonal notes in his(her) diary below (see "Murtha, storm the beach! We'll wait here."), the Democrats are scurrying away from John Murtha's brave plan for withdrawing our troops. I think it's crucial that they perceive that there is strong grassroots support for patriotic criticism of the Administration like his, and, more importantly, for a prompt withdrawal from Iraq.
So I wrote the following to my Senators in the hopes others might follow suit:
Dear Senator :
I hope to hear you speaking out in support of Representative Murtha's patriotism,
his right to criticize the Administration's handling of the war, and, indeed, his
plan for immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
Rep. Murtha is standing up for all of us and is, if nothing more, a true patriot.
As a result he is enduring scurrilous attacks from radical right-wing Republicans.
It is your obligation to stick up for his right, as a loyal American, to speak out.
This is no time for cowardice.
I hope to hear you do more than champion the Representative's patriotism and his
right to criticize the Administration. I hope to hear you support his plan for
a prompt withdrawal. Representative Murtha is plainly correct that the presence
of our troops in Iraq is worsening more than helping the situation there. Even
Iraquis sympathetic to democracy want us to go. Until we renounce the Administration's
plans for permanent bases in the region and stop providing our troops as targets
for the insurgents, there will be no progress.
Sincerely,
Finally, Eugene McCarthy came close to a Presidential nomination for being brave in the way that Murtha has been. Anybody out there forming the Murtha for President Committee? That would have some impact. Maybe we should suggest that he form an "exploratory" group.
