All Come to Hear America

Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 12:36:05 PM PDT

Cold clear evening, dark, driving  north through New York along the border of New England, the AM radio can reach out forever on a night like this, out of Sweeney-Gillibrand country, to Kentucky, Pittsburg, West Virginia, Detoit, Arizona.  We listen to America.

Louisville, Kentucky, analyst Al (Cross?) says KY-2, 3, 4 all up for grabs, and heaven forbid, even KY-1, maybe.  That part of the state they're old, go back to Roosevelt and Truman, may go back to them again.

Al saying if voters are thinking about Ann Northrup when they're in the booth she'll do OK, if they're thinking about the state of the country, she's a goner.  Subdued Republicans calling in, mostly.  Think their candidate ought to win, but one older fellow, former Dem, then Republican, now doesn't know exactly what.  Took the Republicans for their Christian values, but ever since they lied about those WMD's, he's been wondering.... static static,

Pittsburg, KDKA, old station, former Dem Congressman hosting, lambasting Bush up one way and down the other.  JT, 60-ish African-American says no one in his community younger than him is coming out, nothing in this for them they say (what is in it for them?).  Lynn Swann never comes to the community, nobody knows him either.  Steele in MD has done much better, strong candidate.  African-American woman calls, supports Swann, but Steele, he's against stem cell research, he lost her there.  static static

Border states.  "We're doing all right, I commute down through Maryland every day, Steele signs all the way, no Cardin signs"  static static

Wheeling, hymns. Figures, change station

Station sounds like Air America but isn't, Republicans change their story every second, "stay the course," change the course, first one thing then the other, static static in the clear night

Detroit, WJR, great voice of the Great Lakes has turned into Dr. Laura, what's happened up there?  Ad for "civil rights," get rid of affirmative action, don't discriminate against us, Vote Yes,  Ugh. turn station

Arizona!!  Chirpy Republican lady, "Kyl is doing fine," (take that kos), but we've all got to come out to vote for Hayworth(?), that's close, yes, Hayworth's a good friend of mine, static, static,

Everyone listening in the clear night, trying to make out the future in the darkness, listening for the future, looking for the Republic, on the radio, all over America
